Life goes on and Solaris can keep on its evolution which we struggle to follow.
I've been running Solaris 11 codebase for around 2 years by now.
For me it all started with Solaris 10 U8 and soon 11 Express.
Hopefully for me, on earlier versions things were a bit harder.
My point is that on this new year I'll retire Solaris 10 and all its glory.
I pay tribute to Solaris 10 but from now on I'll focus on Solaris 11.
The reasons may be obvious:
- Everything in Solaris 11 is better;
- Well-behaved applications are well supported;
- Despite the long term Solaris 10 support, the last update is U11;
- Despite IP issues for Oracle running on Intel it doesn't seem to be concerning.
